Issue Date: | 2016 | Publisher: | MIT University Skopje | Journal: | International Journal of Recent Research in Arts and Sciences | Abstract: | The purpose of this article is to improve the level of diagnosis and management of rotator cuff tendinopathy and impingement syndrome. The patients, especially athletes, involved in repetitive overhead activities are at risk for overuse injuries of rotator cuff tendons, often closely associated with impingement or compression of the cuff by its surrounding structures. Detailed history and physical examination are the mainstays for an accurate diagnosis. The introduction of improved imaging techniques has greatly facilitated the diagnosis. The treatment is divided in non-surgical and operative treatment. We want to point out that the proportion of patients responding to non-surgical management ranges from 35-90 %. Pain is the main indication for surgery after at least 3 months of conservative treatment. Surgical management consists most frequent of acromioplasty, coracoacromial ligament resection, and repair of cuff defects to improve strength and prevent further extension of the tear. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12188/29875 |
